Goodbye 2E5!

Dear 2E5,

Sorry to have missed you at the staff room the other day. My colleagues told me that a few of you came to look for me and left me 'flowery' messages. I have read all of them and thought all of you were incredibly sweet and kind to have written those notes of thanks. Even Patrick was sweet for once!

Thank you for making my ten weeks at Jurong West a very memorable one (even though I believe I have spent half the time scolding you in class)! I hope you understand that your teachers reprimand you only because we see potential in each one of you and hope to see that you grow up to be responsible citizens with integrity.

Even though I wouldn't be back to check your mid-year papers with you, please update me your grades on the blog.

I will keep this blog till the end of the year so if you have any queries, feel free to post them on the blog. I will set up an entry for that.

Put in effort for the rest of your subjects. Yes, Lim Jun Hao - put down your game console and go study for your examinations! I look forward to seeing all of you next term in school :)

Tell me about one thing that you have enjoyed about your class camp

Next week, we are going to learn how to write factual and personal recounts. For the purpose of this writing task, could I ask all of you to reflect on your NYAA class camp? Jiawei told me that amidst the frequent fights and squabbles, most of you had a lot of fun. So what had you enjoyed the most during the Secondary Two NYAA camp? In your comments, I would truly appreciate it if you could tell me one thing (just one thing) that you had enjoyed on the camp.

Jacob's Ladder - What is a suitable piece of music to convey the mood of Chapter 1?

Amos, thank you for your reminder on Friday. I had almost forgotten to come out with an entry for Jacob's Ladder.

In this weekend blog assignment, read Chapter 1 of Jacob's Ladder. What do you think is the mood created by the writer? We agreed in class last Wed that the narrative was suspenseful. There were many questions which Jacob had asked but very few were answered.

Therefore, identify the mood of the narrative account and find a piece of music or song on youtube that conveys it (N.B. copy and paste the URL of the video clip in your comments). Tell me why you think your selection is suitable. We would conduct a class poll to identify the most appropriate background music for Chapter 1.

Are you ready for the new term?

Welcome back 2E5. I doubt I will see you during the first week because you would away on the NYAA camp. Enjoy your camp and forge stronger ties of friendship among yourselves. Set aside some of your prejudices and pre-formed impressions of one another at the camp and learn to work together as a group. When I meet you in Week 2, I hope to hear many stories about your NYAA camp.

It is very encouraging to see most of you share about your favourite songs. Some (like Azira) had done a great job in describing the MV while others (like Yan Lu) had shared intimately and personally about the song and how it related to them.

I am still in the process of savouring your songs - I have chosen these two for the first presentation on Tuesday 31/03/09. Hou Tian and Yen Hong, could you do us the honour? Thank you.
